THE POWER OF FORGIVENESS
Matthew 18:21-35

To forgive is to set someone free from a debt they owe because of a wrong done to you..and you cancel the debt.

we will continue to be hurt as long as we are human

V22 : Jesus says that we should forgive as long as it is required, just like how He forgives us.

Real forgiveness is practical.

Parables-stories with spiritual meaning.

Characters :
-the servants - us, Christ Followers.
-the King - God
-the debt - sin

Why forgive?
God requires forgiven people to forgive.
(Mark 11:25)

What Forgiveness is NOT:
1. Forgiveness is not approval of minimizing the wrong.
2. It is not taking the blame for the wrong.
3. It does not mean automatic trust.
4. It does not mean you allow someone to keep hurting you.

But, forgiveness is immediate, just like how God forgives us.
But, building trust again takes time.

What if we don't forgive?
Sometimes we don't realise how great our sins are.
Bitterness, anger, urge to seek revenge.

It affects us:
-spiritually
-physically
-mentally

Depression, self pity, anger, distrust.

Then we'll lose the joy of salvation.

Jesus is the Messiah...the KING of the Jews.

God's power...
1. over Disease
2. over Distance and Disease
3. includes women!

Leprosy (last time) was equated with SIN.
it grows and grows and doesn't go away. O_O

Pay attention to individuals like Jesus did.

Mark 1:45
But the man went out and started talking right away. He spread the news to everyone. So Jesus could no longer enter the town openly. He stayed outside in lonely places. But people still came to him from everywhere.

Everyone came to him for healing instead for his teaching.
Jesus always teach first, before healing.

Mark 16:19-20
When the Lord Jesus finished speaking to them, he was taken up into heaven. He sat down at the right hand of God.
Then the disciples went our and preached everywhere. the Lord worked with them. And he backed up his word by the signs that went with it.

Miracles confirm the word. ^^

Power=spiritual ability
authourity=the lawful right to excersise the power from God.

Jesus had authority from God.
Jesus was ASTONISHED at the Roman centurion's faith!
Faith = the confidence that what God said will indeed happen.

Romans 10:17
So faith comes from hearing the message. and the message that is heard is the word of Christ.

Hear God's word and obey it.

The Roman centurion understood Jesus' authority and EXPECTED God to do miracles.

Hebrews 11:6
Without faith it isn't possible to please God. Those who come to God must believe that he exists. And they must believ that he rewards those who look to him.

We usually get what we expect.
God is pleased when we have faith in Him and He rewards us for that faith!
